The Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência is welcoming applications for a Research Fellowship within the project 22231 with the title “Biodata.pt”. The fellowship will have a duration of 6 months, expected to start in July 2018, with the possibility of extension up until the end of the project (17.06.2020), under the exclusiveness regime as required by the regulation of research fellowships by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, IP. The objective of the proposed activity is to contribute to the development of the bioinformatics training component in the context of the Biodata.pt project.

The candidate will be providing support to the organisation of training courses in Bioinformatics for mixed audiences, in agreement with the model that the IGC has a vast experience in (GTPB) ansd show it as a didactical model. The candidate will have the opportunity of acquiring training in the GTPB Programme (http://gtpb.igc.gulbenkian.pt) itself and to get personal acquaintances with the instructors that this programme regurlaly invites, will participate in the instructor training activities (train-the-trainer) and networking at the level of ELIXIR (Training Coordinators Group) and GOBLET (Global Organisation for Bioinformatics Learning, Education and Training). Through this, he/she will acquire a significant amount of diversified experience, not only on the themes covered in GTPB but also in the specific methodologies used in preparing and delivering training courses. He/she will also prepare training implementation plans for national level events and will carefully document these plans and the results of their implementation in the context and at the scale of the Biodata.pt infrastructure.

The candidate should hold a Masters in Bioinformtics, Biomedical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biology or related disciplines with proven experience in Bioinformatics. The candidate should have a good background in statistics. The candidate should be experienced in working with scripting environment/languages such as R and Python. The candidate should have a broad knowledge and interest in Biology. Experience with using Linux environments is essential, and knowledge of linux systems administration is an added value. Experience with cloud systems is advantageous. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
