Did you know that BioData.pt was actively involved in a clinical study that intended to link Vitamin D levels with COVID19 disease severity?

On May 5th, the Portuguese Node of ELIXIR, so-called BioData.pt, celebrated 5 years in an event that brought together history, experiences, knowledge and vision by the words of some of the many that contributed to the establishment of a biological data management research infrastructure in the Portuguese scientific system.

Cymon Cox, Gianluca de Moro and João Machado, members of the BioData.pt Marine Resources Community from the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR), have led the effort to develop an online marine genomic resource to aid community-driven annotation of marine eukaryotes in the scope of a EOSC-Life demonstrator project. 

 

Ana Portugal Melo, our Executive Director, has recently published an article in the Agronomy journal regarding the impact of rice cultivation and off-season period on the dynamics of soil enzyme activities and bacterial communities in Mozambique. 

 

Today, the ELIXIR-CONVERGE project releases one of its main outputs — the RDMkit. Developed and managed by those who work daily with life science data, this research data management kit provides a comprehensive guide with best practices applicable to projects from start to end.

The sixth edition of our BioData.pt Talks was held online on the last Wednesday, March 24th. During this session, we had the pleasure of having Hanne Elsen, Data Protection Officer at the University of Ghent, who gave us an insight regarding the application of the General Data Protection Regulation in research especially when involving health data.

On the past February 18th, the 4th General Assembly of the BioData.pt Management Board took place remotely via Zoom. 

The fifth edition of our BioData.pt Talks was held online on the last Tuesday, February 23rd, to an audience of 45 participants.

BioData.pt has published its Annual Report for 2020!  Here, we highlight the effort of over 60 experts from 12 different institutions towards a new era for bioinformatics and biological data management in Portugal.
